Nike and Saturnalia

A while back I checked out the Nike commercial and the images it portrayed stuck in my mind.
The first thing I noticed were the numbers. They all seemed to represent something more. First of all the commercial stars Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and 28 is his real number.
The number 28 seemed to represent something more in this commercial though. I eventually thought of the Saturn Return phenomenon which is the idea that at the age 28 people cross over into a different stage in their lives and major changes occur. There are different opinions of the actual age but once you research you'll find that the most common age given is 28.

At first I thought I was reaching with this connection but as I kept watching the commercial other links to Saturn caught my eye. First of all many have speculated that the Nike logo itself is meant to be a representation of Saturn. This would not be a surprise at all considering the symbolism associated with the logos of most major corporations.
Saturn has been symbolically represented in popular culture for years. If you read Going Green you are already aware of some of these representations.

Gwen Stefani and her band No Doubt have been on my mind lately and they are sure to come up a lot in future posts. In 2000 Interscope Records released their album Return of Saturn.

Saturn symbolism seems to have followed Gwen and No Doubt ever since.
Saturn symbolically represents the Sun God and so does the Orange so the photo above takes on a whole new meaning.

Behold a pale horse.

The checkerboard and Saturn symbolism has followed Gwen into her solo career as seen in this commercial for one of her perfumes (another one of her perfume commercials will be featured in a future post).

Earlier this year the self proclaimed God M.C. Jayhova wore his Saturn inspired T-Shirt.
His wife Beyonce is 28 this year and has just celebrated the biggest year in her career which solidified her as a pop culture icon.
Fellow pop star Justin Timberlake is also 28 this year.

The new King?

Returning to the commercial, the most striking scene was the final scene where Adrian is seen with skin made in the design of multiple hexagons. Hexagons have been associated with Saturn ever since the following photo was captured by NASA.
Hexagons were also featured on Muse's latest album cover. The cover of the album is interesting as the colors used correlate with the Kundalini and Tree of Life systems.

Hexagons were also used on the album cover for Kylie Minogue's last album X. As I stated in Run This Town X symbolizes transformation into Christ Consciousness.

DNA Activation on the Express Kundalini

Just wanted to post the following excerpt from The Sync Hole.

"The DNA Strand bears a remarkable resemblance to Train Tracks. Ever sense I heard this argument With Ralph Abram, Rupert Sheldrake, and Terrance McKenna over the association of Train Tracks with Strange Attractors in the Chaos Theory I can't help but think that Train Tracks=Destiny. Everything from the Blue Car scene in Hancock to the train in Polar Express above falls into nice context change when viewed with these sync glasses on. DNA is a genetic unavoidable destination. It's predestined if you would. Just like the Train above with the top of the mountain looking much like DNA Kundalini style. The Train is Destiny, the Mountain is the Spine or Human Body, the moon is Imagination. Destiny? You have to be destine to catch a fish? And what if it's not my destiny? Is there any other way to think that will influence my luck?"

That post reminds me very much of the themes I was trying to cover in Christ's Musical Express. It's good t0 see someone else coming to similar conclusions. Interesting that it's all coming together close to the holiday season considering all the references to Christmas. Blonde Luciferian Magick

Hopefully I'm not boring anyone with all of the Madonna talk lately. It's just that once you go there with her there's so much to talk about. After this entry and the final Magic Mirrors post I'll be done with her for a while and will be moving on to other stuff, maybe some males for a change, the ladies seem to be getting all of the attention, I wonder why. Anyway, with this post I will be further exploring symbolism in popular culture in relation to the Occult, Luciferianism, and Gnosticism.
In 1993 Madonna embarked on what would end up being yet another controversial yet recording breaking tour. The Girlie Show featured some of her darkest themes up until that point. For the last performance of the show Madonna performed a cover of Sly & The Family Stone's "Everybody Is A Star" along with her own debut single "Everybody".

The title "Everybody is a Star" is interesting as it relates to the famous "Every man and woman is a star" quote from Aleister Crowley's Book of the Law.

As I stated before, Madonna uses themes in a very systematic way, so this was not the first time she used this theme. In her song "Spotlight" she sings "Everybody is a star" and just last year on her song "Beat Goes On", featuring Kanye West, she commands her audience to "Be the star".

The Girlie Show is full of symbolic presentations of Tantra, sexual rituals, and Magic.
She beings the song with "Erotica". When examined, the song "Erotica" is about mental possession. She performs this song in a ring that lights up with fire later on in the show. Ring of fire represent the ring of knowledge. Many rituals are done within rings of fire. I have meant to blog about this for a while. Check out Aaliyah's "4 Page Letter" video and Britney's "Womanizer" performances (Good Morning America, X Factor).
The second song she performs is "Fever". As she sings "You give me fever" and slowly takes off her blindfolds. The performance reminds me of Kundalini awakening of the base Chakra. Not just due to the sexual nature of the performance but also the burning sensation many say occurs during the activation of this Chakra. She also uses two male dancers who dance around her. Could her dancers represent the intertwining Serpents of Kundalini (it's important to note that Madonna practices Kundalini yoga).
As I stated here, Madonna's songs about dance are really about disassociation. The pose she is doing in that above picture from the performance of "Vogue" reminds me of out of body experiences as the eyes are usually depicted as leaving the body. This article explains how Out of Body experiences relates to Kundalini.

Kundalini Energy Projection

According to Vedas when kundalini is united with Lord Siva at the sahasrara Chakra, one who executes the union enjoys the Supreme Bliss.

Kundalini is a plexus, a reservoir of psychic energy situated at the base of the spine. Considered as the Energy of the Divine, it binds us when we project its energy into the world and yet, it liberates us when we return this energy to its divine origin.

Experiencing trance is in itself a divine feeling, but at the same time, it is very difficult for everyone to experience it, unless mastered through Vedic practices of meditation, yoga and spiritualism. Trance can be both voluntary and involuntary, but in both the effect is the same – disassociation of the soul from the body, and temporary detachment from everything related to body. It is neither the state of wakefulness nor that of the sleep. It is an intermediate state of being.

Most of us experience trance, albeit inadvertently, when we are absent-minded – probably absorbed in something but not passing through a cluttered phase of thinking. Children are said to be in brief state of trance (which is, in fact, high level of concentration) when they leave you unresponded (say, while watching television, playing a video game or simply solving a puzzle) if you call them.

Trance as a mental phenomenon has been studied experimentally too and is being considered as important in the way that it can provide meaningful insights into areas where we are stuck in our process in the mind-body medicine and/or simply “Out of Body Experiences.” A researcher has hypothesized that "stepping out of the body by will" can be performed in three different states:

1. in trance
2. iin the "half sleep state" – a moment before falling asleep
3. iin lucidity or the state of false awakening

Many people comment on Madonna's use of Marilyn Monroe iconography in her work but she has referenced Marlene Dietrich just as much and the Girlie Show was no different. In fact, she referenced Marlene twice in this tour. The first referenced was during the performance of "Express Yourself". In this performance she is referencing Marlene in Blonde Venus. Venus is very important to Occultist as the pentagram is believed to trace Venus' conjunction with the sun. Madonna symbolically used a pentagram in "Human Nature", a song that was written in response to the backlash she received from the 92/93 era.
She referenced Dietrich again in "Like a Virgin" even taking it a step further and incorporating "Falling In Love Again" from The Blue Angel into the performance. This performance also plays with androgyny which is very important symbolism.

Anyway, to wrap it up on Madonna I would like to show another connection on Madonna's way of thinking and Crowley's. In 1991 Madonna told The Advocate "They digest it on a lot of different levels. Some people will see it and be disgusted by it, but maybe they'll be unconsciously aroused by it. If people keep seeing it and seeing it, eventually it's not going to be such a strange thing."

This quote is similar to Crowley's definition of Magick which is "Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will."

Madonna's quote also reminds me of Andy Warhol's use of repetition in his work which was believed to be social commentary on popular culture.
Madonna's new greatest hits cover was inspired by one of Warhol's Monroe pieces.

But anyway, moving along.

I wanted to post a few things about Goldfrapp. First of all we have the Peacock symbolism I mentioned here.
Another photo Goldfrapp used to promote Supernature. Clearly a bitten apple symbolizing eating from the tree of knowledge. I went into how common that symbolism is here.

Christ's Musical Express

As a teenager David Bowie was my hero. He was dangerous, intelligent, mysterious, and sexually ambiguous. To enjoy his work was to step into a world of everything I'm interested - the dichotomy of religious and Occult symbolism, the dissection of traditional gender roles, and the satirical commentary on the idolatry of pop culture. He explored Satanism, Gnosticism, Kabbalah, and Christianity all under the iconic masks of characters such as Ziggy Stardus, Aladdin Sane, and the Thin White Duke.

It has long been known that David Bowie's work is full of Occult and Magickal references. In the 70's David Bowie introduced Kabbalah to the general public. In interviews he identified himself as a practicing Kabbalahlist. This declaration was one of David's many media manipulations; a few years earlier he had referred to himself as a Buddhist. Despite the questionable authenticity of Bowie's allegiance to Kabbalah, this very public association of a famous pop star with a, then, obscure spiritual practice brought Kabbalah (the inspiration behind Freemasonry) into the the mainstream and introduced Bowie next character, the Thin White Duke, as a Kabblahlist.



David Bowie's next album was titled Station to Station. In a 2001 interview Bowie admitted that the inspiration for the title and the lyrics to the title track was the cabbalistic (same as Kabbalah) tree of life and the fourteen landmarks on Christ's path to the crucifixtion (and conjuring up spirits; something I will get into later when we boogie with Madonna). This fusion of the Occult and Christianity is interesting and a concept I will return to later in this blog. For now let's stick to David Bowie.



the Kabbalah Tree of Life and the Chakras of the Kundalini represent the same thing, the merging of the feminine and masculine energies to obtain spirirual enlightenment. As I explained here, I believe that is what is behind the androgynous public personas of artists like Bowie, Prince, and Marilyn Manson who's work all contain esoteric symbolism.




The symbol often associated with the Kundalini is the Caduceus which is better known today as a symbol for the medical industry. As a teenager I wore a necklace with the symbol and I always got the question "Do you want to go into the medical field?".


The relationship between the Tree of Life and the Chakras is interesting because just as Bowie used train stations to symbolize a spiritual experience the band Love and Rockers, who were also mentioned here, associated trains with spirituality on their song "Kundalini Express".


Here's another one of their album covers which uses the 8 pointed star that I always write about here. It's interesting how it all starts to come together.

Years after David Bowie first introduced Kabbalah to the mainstream in the 70's, Kabbalah become a solidified pop culture staple when the ultimate pop star, Madonna, jusitified her love for the faith on a glabal scale. It is now common for celebrities such as Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton to be photographed sporting the infamous Kabbalah red strings and attending Kabbalah services; where as when Bowie first introduced it Kabbalah was seen as weird and satanic. Social conditioning?

In Madonna's 2008 Sticky & Sweet tour she performed her hit song "Music" wearing purple shorts (also note the rainbow belt with stars).

Purple is the color often associated with Kundalini as it symbolizes the red and blue (masculine and feminine) energies coming together (blue + red = purple). To top it off the video projection behind her is of a New York Subway (train).

The line "Do you like to boogie" reminds me of this video series where they explore Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" and the line "boogie" as association with spirits or entities, remember Bowie said one of the inspiration behind Station to Station was conjuring up spirits.

So where does Christ come into all of this? Besides Bowie's revelation that Christ was one of the inspirations behind Station to Station, a train was used in a VERY symbolic Christmas movie geared towards children.


All aboard the Express Kundalini.

The Polar Express is very symbolic and I find it interesting that a lot of Christians enjoy it. The film stars Tom Hanks who, in my opinion, is an Illuminati movie star but let's not go there because I don't want this blog entry to be about the Illuminati on the control behind the scenes.

To keep it moving, Christmas itself is full of Occult practices. Click here for more on that (and do further research).


The fusion of Christmas and the Occult was explored on Eyes Wide Shut as all of the rituals were performed during the "holiday" season". The 8 pointed star was also featured prominately during this film. The 8 pointed star is the symbol of regeneration as the snake sheds his skin, the intertwining snakes of the kundalini. It all relates to rebirth or as Madonna would say "re-invention".

Speaking of Madonna, she herself is a fusion between religion and the Occult. Her name signifies her Catholic faith yet she is a Kabbalahist. Her name represents a Goddess but her persona was that of a whore. Her current boy toy, Jesus, displays that same dichotomy. First of all the pairing of the Madonna and Jesus is incestuous. Since his pairing with Madonna the media has jumped on him presenting a darker image for him.
Here he is photographed for a recent photo shoot. Considering Walt Disney's rumored rumor pedophilia (and the age difference between Jesus and Madge), his "boy" shirt and Disney ears were an interesting choice.

Holiday on the Moon

I meant to write this blog on May 8th, but since it was my birthday I had a few surprises, so I was not home to write it. The inspiration for this topic was the fact that I had read prior to my birthday that there would be a full moon that night. As it turns out there was a full moon that night. Here is a video below (not taken by me).

The full moon, and the moon in general, are very important aspects of Pagan and general Occult traditions. Rituals and ceremonies are performed on nights with a full moon because it is believed those nights possess more spiritual energy. Since I run this blog about mind control and Occult themes in popular culture, I immediately began thinking of full moon references I have seen in movies and music videos. The first reference I thought of was the music video for MGMT's "Electric Feel" which is one of my favorite songs and videos of this decade. Click here to watch the music video.


In the music video, a bunch of "hippie" people meet in the wilderness and dance under a full moon. Later they are seen rubbing "colors" or "energy" taken from the moon over their bodies. Some of the people are wearing masks similar to the film Eyes Wide Shut adding to the ritualistic nature of the videos theme.

Here's the cover to the single which features a reptile.

The song "Electric Feel" comes from MGMT's debut album which also features the track 4th Dimensional Transition. If you inspect the lyrics you'll see that the song is about a female presence who has electric energy or feelings that you can connect to and "change the world". The voltage and feminine energy theme reminds me of our current Electric Lady, Lady Gaga with her boltage iconography.


It also reminds me of the feminine or mothering Kundalini energy. The Kundalini connection to this song was brought up at Dedroidify here.

The feminine, sacred, and mothering energy association also reminds me of this amazing entry over at The Patternist.

Of course the Moon itself is often associated with feminine energy.


I have always felt the androgyny of male music icons like David Bowie and Prince were artistic depictions of the the feminine spiritual energy expressed in the song "Electric Feel". Prince's constant use of the color purple is another dead giveaway. The color purple is often associated with Kundalini.


Prince also has a new album titled Lotus Flower. Check out the pyramid and the number 3 (3 is representative of feminine energy). The Lotus Flower is yet another symbol for Kundalini.

As kundalini reaches each chakra, that lotus opens and lift its flower; and as soon as she leaves for a higher chakra, the lotus closes its petals and hangs down, symbolizing the activation of the energies of the chakra and their assimilation to kundalini. The increasing number of lotus petals, in ascending order, may be taken to indicate the rising energy or vibration-frequencies of the respective chakras, each functioning as a transformer of energies from one potency to another.

Another androgynous musician who has used the Lotus symbolism is Marilyn Manson. Also, check out his voltage symbolism.

But anyway, back to the Moon.


Just pointing out the black, red, and white usage on both this cover and the Manson cover. Anyway, this album by Love and Rockets features the songs "Kundalini Express" and "Holiday on the Moon".

The use of the word "holiday" is interesting. In the movie Eyes Wide Shut, the season was always referred to as "happy holiday" instead of "happy holidays". Of course one of electric lady Madonna's biggest hits is titled "holiday". Of course a Sabbat is an occult holiday tradition.

The symbol is the Wheel of the Year or 8 pointed star. I have discussed the 8 pointed star a lot. It's featured in the film Eyes Wide Shut which is why I believe the use of the word "holiday" was an intentional clue. Like I said before, Kubrick left a lot of hints in that film.

Let's bring it back to Madonna really quick.
Here is a screen shot from her iconic music video "Like a Virgin". In the video the virgin (so ironic, Madonna playing Madonna or the Virgin Mary in a video called Like a Virgin) is sacrificed to the Sun God (the Lion) on a full moon.

20 years later Madonna released a song that was widely regarded as "the new Holiday". As you can see above the moon is blatantly featured in the accompanied music video. An interesting fact is that the single was released on June 6, 2006 (666) although really that is 668 (2006=2+6=8). I only bring this up because the media exploited the 666 aspect of that date although no one mentioned that Madonna had a single coming out.

Another feminine moon connection in the media is of the band Persephone's Bees from Oakland, CA (my hometown!). They have a song titled "Walk to the Moon" on their album Notes from the Underworld. They also have a song on the soundtrack of the modern BWitched movie starring Nicole Kidman (Eyes Wide Shut, Stepford Wives). Alright, there was so many Occult themes in those two sentences I don't even know where to start. Let's start at the beginning.

First of all the name Persephone's Bees. To save time let's take it to Wiki to explore who Persephone is:
In Greek mythology, Persephone (pronounced /pərˈsɛfəniː/; Kore or Cora) was the embodiment of the Earth's fertility at the same time that she was the Queen of the Underworld, the korē (or young maiden), and the parthenogenic daughter of Demeter and, in later Classical myths, a daughter of Demeter and Zeus. In the Olympian version, she also becomes the consort of Hades when he becomes the deity that governs the underworld.

She governed the underworld? What is the Underworld? The Underworld was believed to be the realm of damed souls. So essentially Persephone was the Queen of the Damed.


It's interesting that they'd name their album Notes From the Underworld. Are the song full of ritualistic channeling of damned spirits? As most of us know, Kabbalah is keen on communicating with spirits.

Another female led band are Goldfrapp.

Here they are on Letterman performing "Ooh La La". The performance is in a setting at night. There's a bright light behind the window. What is the light at night?

The song lyrics "coils up and round me" reminds me of the coiling serpent energy of Kundalini which is similar to these lyrics by another female fronted band, Blondie.


Above is a clip from the movie Pleasantville. The movie is full of religious references. if you go to 2:50 on that clip you'll see the young blond woman picking an Apple and offering it to the guy (Adam & Eve) on a full moon.

This was very interesting for me at the time because I grew up in an extremely religious household. The rebellious concepts in the film had a profound effect on me at the time because I at the time was beginning to break out of my strict upbringing and explore my sexuality and other spiritual philosophies.

My birthday was a full circle moment for me though, because just as I had questioned my upbringing, I am now questioning the paths that I took after I rebelled. Was it really me? Why do you either have to be a good boy or completely rebel. Maybe my true self was in neither of these boxes. Programming extends itself to so many labels. If you're good they have a box for that, if you're a rebel they have a box for that (punk, anarchist, outcast). The true challenge is finding out who we truly are outside of all of those boxes, not jumping out of one box right into another.


To end things off here, here's a clip from a movie that came out on my birthday, May 8th. I don't usually like to explain myself or my intentions on this blog but I just want to make it clear that I am not homophobic, I'm actually bisexual. My inclusion of this clip is due to the fact that this is yet another showcase of rebellion against rules on a full moon because as my introduction entry stated "This blog will try to help in the process of bringing awareness to the many symbols, ideologies, and themes that are used repetively in the media."

The clip is from the film Little Ashes. The film is about the life of surrealist artists Salvador Dali. The film stars Twilight star Robert Pattinson (who will star in the sequel New Moon). In the scene he's seen engaging in a man on man kiss with his co star. Could this be a new trend of the rebel starring in gay roles?

Heath Ledger before his death (well, duh).

Right now they are trying to push Robert as our current rebel. Anyone can spot the comparisons with one of Hollywood's first rebels.

The cigarettes, the hair - just a different generation.
